About Bachelor of Arts (Honours) - Sociology and Criminology
The Sociology and Criminology program aims to develop students' critical analytical and interpretive skills, as well as deepen their sociological understanding of the world around them. Students will gain insight into the complex social conditions that drive individuals to engage in criminal behavior, and how this expertise can enhance their study of criminology. Through critical analysis, they will examine societal responses to crime and challenge existing perspectives to contribute to the creation of a more just society. The modules will introduce students to contemporary theories in sociology and criminology, addressing topics such as youth crime, social exclusion, and the influence of media on our perceptions of crime. Additionally, students will have the opportunity to choose their own research focus when working on their dissertation.
