Master of Science - Public Health - Extended

This extended master’s programme is designed for international students who wish to pursue postgraduate study at London Metropolitan University and will allow guaranteed progression on to the Public Health MSc. The Extended Master’s Public Health MSc begins with a 15-week programme that will help improve the English language ability and study skills before starting their master’s course in public health.

Following this initial 15 weeks, students will go on to join the Public Health MSc. This will teach students about the fundamental factors when considering public health. From the viewpoint that public health policy is much wider than healthcare alone, this course will cover the social, political, environmental and economic determinants contributing to the health of the population and also consider how this can be improved. On completion of the course, students will be prepared for a public health career within the National Health Service (NHS), community and government organisations and agencies. The assessments at the end of each module have been carefully designed to ensure students have the opportunity to demonstrate their learning and meet the stated outcomes. Assessment methods include essay writing, formal examinations, report writing, group working, debating and formal presentations, together with the compiling of a portfolio of tasks and activities undertaken. The programme is planned to build both the self-esteem and the confidence so students are able to engage fully with study within the UK.
