About Bachelor of Arts (Honours) - Law (Foundation Year) (M102)
The Law (Foundation Year) BA is a four-year degree set up to help students enter their desired law-related undergraduate course, if students don't meet the necessary entry requirements for the three-year course. The foundation year is designed to prepare students for the challenge of studying at undergraduate level.
Students will study modules which will help them to improve their critical thinking, essay writing and academic skills. Students will also study a law module which will introduce them to the fundamental principles of law; rights and responsibilities within the legal system; and the way the legal system works. There will also be opportunities to engage in study visits to legal institutions.
This is not a qualifying law degree for professional legal training, so it’s not suitable if students who wish to become a solicitor or barrister.
This law degree with a foundation year is designed to help students enter a career within environments that rely heavily on the knowledge of law, including business, politics, the civil service and the voluntary sector.
Throughout the degree, students will receive academic and careers support from tutors and academic mentors. There will also be opportunities to attend workshops that focus on improving interview, essay writing and critical thinking skills.
In the foundation year, students will focus on developing academic skills within the context of a broad range of current themes and social issues, from an interdisciplinary perspective. Students will also explore the broad topics of media, crime and race, where their critical thinking, essay writing and research skills will be exercised. In Year 0, students will also study a Law module which will introduce them to the fundamental principles of law, rights and responsibilities within the legal system, and the way the legal system works.
In the subsequent three years of the course, students will engage in a more in-depth academic study of law, gaining much more choice over the subjects and themes they will study.
The foundation year on this course is shared with a number of other foundation year degrees, so in Year 0, students will get to study with other students interested in a variety of different specialisms.
Following the foundation year, students will continue to study the same subjects on the Law BA degree. If students find that they wish to change their degree specialism at the end of the foundation year, there will be flexibility to do so.
On completion of this course, students will graduate with the same award and title as students on the traditional three-year course.
An International Bright Futures Scholarship in the amount of £3,000 will automatically be applied to eligible students with overseas fee status starting a degree with London Met in the 2024/25 academic year. This scholarship includes a tuition fee reduction for the duration of students' studies and is applicable to both undergraduate and postgraduate courses.
Tuition Deposit is £4,000 for all students excluding those from Punjab and Haryana for whom the deposit amount will remain at 50%
