Master of Arts - Human Rights and International Conflict

About Master of Arts - Human Rights and International Conflict
Human rights and international conflicts confront society with the most urgent moral and political issues of modern time. This course explains and explores these issues, addressing hard questions by drawing on diverse theoretical approaches and practical experiences. Taught by published experts in human rights, peace and conflict studies, international relations, politics, history, philosophy and women’s studies, the master’s degree will equip students with the kind of understanding necessary to work for peace, justice and human rights in the real world.
The Human Rights and International Conflict MA explores the relation of states and their international organisations to the idea and practice of human rights. Students will gain a strong grasp of the moral, ethical, political and legal issues at stake in international relations and conflicts, including the current conflict between Islamism and the international community of states.
Students will confront the issue of how to reconcile theoretical unconditional rights with a consequentialist ethic of political responsibility and security. Students will also explore particular interests, problems and conflicts that demand judgement and action.
The master’s degree will provide both a solid academic grounding in human rights and international relations, and offers a wide choice of optional modules. Students will be trained in research methodology before completing a 12-15,000 word dissertation dealing with a subject of their choice.
An International Bright Futures Scholarship in the amount of £3,000 will automatically be applied to eligible students with overseas fee status starting a degree with London Met in the 2024/25 academic year. This scholarship includes a tuition fee reduction for the duration of students' studies and is applicable to both undergraduate and postgraduate courses.
Tuition Deposit is £4,000 for all students excluding those from Punjab and Haryana for whom the deposit amount will remain at 50%
