2-Semester Pathway - Pre-Master's Programme - Continue to Master of Science - Social Science Research - Communication and Media

The Level 6 Pre-Master’s Programme (PMP) is a two-semester programme, with guaranteed progression to a wide range of Master’s degrees at Loughborough University. 

This programme is designed to prepare international students for postgraduate study in the UK. The PMP will allow students to improve their English while learning the study skills and research methods that they will need during their Master's degree studies. Students will study academic modules relating to their chosen progression route. Each semester consists of thirteen teaching weeks, one reading week, and an assessment week. The weekly hours of study varies by semester with students on average studying around 18-21 (and up to 21) hours per week. Each module will have an assessment schedule, which will be completed by the end of the appropriate semester. Assessments will be designed to demonstrate learning across the individual modules of the programme and to allow students to experience a wide range of the assessment methods used in UK postgraduate programmes. Assessments will include coursework, essays, reports and other structured assignments, oral examination and unseen written examinations.

Accredited by the Economic and Social Research Council (ESRC), the prestigious MSc Social Science Research (Communication and Media) is designed for students interested in pursuing a communication and media research career in academia or in industry. The programme provides an opportunity to develop specialised research methods skills in communication and media in an internationally renowned department, as well as a comprehensive overview of the key methodological and philosophical debates that currently shape social sciences.
