The Department of Civil and Environmental Engineering at Louisiana State University (LSU) offers a Bachelor of Science degree in Environmental Engineering. This program, established in 1995, is the only Environmental Engineering program on the central Gulf Coast. Graduates of the program have gone on to work in industry, consulting, and governmental agencies across the U.S. The Environmental Engineering program at Louisiana State University is accredited by the Engineering Accreditation Commission of ABET, reflecting its high standards.
Environmental engineers utilize principles of biology, chemistry, and physics to address environmental challenges. They work on issues such as water and air pollution control, recycling, waste disposal, climate change, and public health. Environmental engineers play a crucial role in municipal water supply and wastewater treatment, as well as in designing safe disposal and remediation methods for hazardous materials in the environment.
