About Bachelor of Arts - Art (Studio)
A students development as an artist involves more than solitary practice. It takes collaboration, mentoring, and training – and the quality of each determines the quality of the work they’ll produce. The Studio Art Department is committed to working with students as an individual to get the most out of their talent and vision. However, art is not simply about art; it includes the present world, the worlds of the past, and the worlds of the future. Manhattanville College will emphasize that art begins outside of the studio and is defined and refined inside it, before ultimately returning to the public in a more comprehensive semblance.
Manhattanville’s studio arts program emphasizes the fine arts as the foundation for all art careers. After exploring several areas, students will do advanced work on their senior project in a concentration they choose, such as painting, drawing, sculpture, ceramics, printmaking, digital media/graphic design, or photography.
Students exhibit their work throughout the college campus and in Berger Gallery and Brownson Gallery. Senior projects are exhibited in April and May of the senior year in group exhibitions.
