Master of Arts in Teaching - Math Education (Grades 5-12)

The nationally recognized Mathematics Education Department prepares undergraduate and graduate students to teach Middle Childhood/Adolescence Education (Grades 5-12) Mathematics. Manhattanville College programs incorporate standards by the National Council of Teachers of Mathematics (NCTM), the Common Core State Standards, and the Mathematics requirements of New York State. They prepare teacher candidates to deliver inquiry and problem-based instruction in the classroom in order to develop the critical thinking and analytical skills of their students. They emphasize a hands-on, active learning approach in the classroom, with the role of the teacher being a coach and facilitator.

The Manhattanville College believe that research in mathematics content informs practice, and mathematics teachers should be cutting edge and well informed in their respective content areas. Manhattanville College goal is to graduate highly qualified teacher candidates who can implement a constructivist approach in the classroom using state-of-the-art educational technology.
