Master of Professional Studies - Biology (Grades 5-12) & Special Education (Grades 7-12)

The Science program has received national recognition from the National Science Teachers Association (NSTA). The Science Education Department prepares undergraduate and graduate students to teach Middle Childhood/Adolescence Education: Biology, Chemistry (Grades 5-12), or Physics (Grades 7-12). The programs incorporate standards as expressed in the Next Generation Science Standards (NGSS), and the science and technology requirements of New York State. 

At Manhattanville, they emphasize a hands-on, minds-on, active learning approach in the classroom. Through their engagement with science content and methods courses, teacher candidates develop essential strategies for bringing science to life with their students. Goal of the college is to graduate highly qualified teacher candidates that can implement a constructivist approach to teaching and learning in the classroom using state-of-the-art educational technology. Teacher candidates are highly qualified in science content area knowledge, pedagogical content knowledge and art of teaching.
