At Marist College, Fashion Merchandising is much more than a major – it’s a hands-on, immersive learning experience. The Fashion Merchandising students achieve high levels of success because they enter the fashion industry with years of experience under their belts even before graduation.

The Merchandising major relies upon foundational courses such as Fashion in Culture and Commerce, Digital Software Studies and Textiles, then advances with concentration-specific offerings in Business, Product Development, or Fashion Promotion.

Upon graduation, students in the Fashion Merchandising program students will be able to: 
  • Employ responsible research, and ethical decision-making processes and practices in the fashion industry. 
  • Implement key components of the various segments of the fashion industry from concept to finished products, products and services, consumer markets and technology. 
  • Integrate creative, technical, and analytical competencies necessary for careers in fashion merchandising. 
  • Demonstrate effective communication skills as required in the fashion industry through a variety of professional methods, including visual, oral, and written forms. 
  • Demonstrate knowledge and skills of the fashion industry through reflective experiential learning. 
  • Incorporate conceptual and critical thinking strategies applicable to the fashion industry. 
The Business concentration focuses on the planning, procurement, and marketing aspects of the fashion business and includes courses such as:
  • Retailing Principles and Practices
  • Merchandise Planning and Control
  • Buying, Planning and Allocation
