About Master of Science - Geological Engineering

Graduate students in geological engineering work on cutting-edge applied research projects that target problems of local, regional and often global significance. Recent graduates have worked on projects ranging from applications in space mining, water resources, drone technologies, to engineering geophysics.

Geological engineering is the application of the knowledge and principles of geology to the solution of problems in engineering practice. These applications include the evaluation of geological conditions for environmental protection studies, for groundwater resource and pollution investigations, for mineral and energy development, for site selection of civil works facilities, and for land use and environmental impact analysis. The master’s degree can be earned with a thesis or a non-thesis option.

Geological engineering faculty conduct research in cooperation with other Missouri Science and Technology departments and research centers, University of Missouri campuses, state and federal agencies, and other universities and research entities worldwide.
