In this digital online global society, maintaining open and effective communications between corporations, governments, organizations and their public demands highly-trained public relations practitioners. This program will cover a lot of ground over two semesters, beyond just PR strategies and tactics. Students will learn best practice in:
- Social media and digital communications
- Digital publishing
- Media relations management
- Issues and crisis communication
- Public relations event planning and execution, to name a few
Program Highlights:
Public relations students begin receiving hands-on experience as early as week two, ensuring a well-rounded learning opportunity through:
- Community based client work based out of in-house full service communications agency – The Agency
- An unpaid 140 hours field placement in an industry setting, taken anytime through the two-semester program
- Networking and learning from industry leaders through guest speaking series, informational interviews, mock job interviews, and strong relationships with partners from the Canadian Public Relations Society (CPRS) and the International Association of Business Communicators (IABC)
Students will graduate with a portfolio of materials and projects that demonstrate their ability to function at a professional level. Some students even find their first job in the field from connections made through vast industry connections.
Learning outcomes:
- Formulate PR strategies and execute tactics in corporate and not-for-profit communications.
- Learn to use social and digital media in PR planning and execution.
- Explore media relations, electronic publishing, crisis communications and advertising.
- Acquire expertise in PR analysis and planning.
- Write professional-level public relations materials.
- Develop visually creative materials to meet PR objectives.
- Plan and execute an event.
- Learn the principles of fundraising and execute a fundraising activity.
- Work with a team of classmates on organizational communications challenges.
