Bachelor of Science - Biology - Pre-Medical

The Biology degree with a pre-medical option track offered by the Department of Biological Sciences is designed to prepare students for a career in medicine. The program includes activities such as pre-medical coursework, volunteer work, clinical experience, research, and the application process.

The Association of American Medical Colleges has established a list of required courses for pre-medical students, including one year each of general chemistry, organic chemistry, biology, and physics.

Furthermore, students pursuing a pre-medical track must also complete courses to prepare for the Medical College Admission Test (MCAT), a standardized exam used by medical schools to evaluate applicants. The MCAT covers core competencies essential for success in medical education and practice, including Chemical and Physical Foundations of Biological Systems, Critical Analysis and Reasoning Skills, Biological and Biochemical Foundations of Living Systems, and Psychological, Social, and Biological Foundations of Behavior.
