About Bachelor of Science - Mechanical Engineering - Aerospace
Program Description
New York Tech's undergraduate Mechanical Engineering program grounds students in the design and development of mechanical systems, structures, thermo-fluid systems, aerospace systems, advanced transportation, and energy systems. They will learn to work in a variety of fields, including energy conversion, product design and development, manufacturing, construction, and research.
Students will also have the option to choose a concentration in aerospace engineering, focusing on aircraft and space vehicle design. We also offer a combined, five-year Bachelor of Science in Mechanical Engineering and Master of Science in Energy Management. This interdisciplinary curriculum combines an engineering background with leadership skills. Choosing this option saves time while students earn two degrees—and they gain a year of earnings potential.
In alignment with the NYT mission and the mission and vision of the School of Engineering and Computing Sciences, our program faculty, with input from stakeholders such as employers, alumni, and industrial advisory board members, have determined Program Educational Objectives to prepare versatile engineers who:- Are successfully employed in engineering or their chosen career path;
- Pursue graduate studies and/or continued education in their field; and
- Function as responsible members of society through engagement in community or professional organizations.
To support these objectives, the curriculum has been developed to provide student outcomes that describe what degree candidates are expected to know and be able to do by the time they graduate. Upon graduation, students are expected to acquire an ability to:- Apply knowledge of mathematics, science, and engineering.
- Design and conduct experiments and analyze and interpret data.
- Design a system, component, or process to meet desired needs within realistic constraints such as economic, environmental, social, political, ethical, health and safety, manufacturability, and sustainability.
- Collaborate on multidisciplinary teams.
- Identify, formulate, and solve engineering problems.
- Understand professional and ethical responsibility.
- Communicate effectively.
- Understand with broad education the impact of engineering solutions in global, economic, environmental, and societal contexts.
- Engage in and recognize the need for lifelong learning.
- Understand and know about contemporary issues.
- Use the techniques, skills, and modern engineering tools necessary for engineering practice.
