About Master of Science - Architecture - Urban and Regional Design
Program Description
NYT’s 36-credit graduate program in urban design is located in the heart of midtown Manhattan, a world capital with world-class faculty, public-private organizations, and active professionals leading global practices. This strategic campus setting enables students to combine theory with experience by living and working in a variety of urban areas and conducting field study in and around New York City. We’ll prepare students to succeed in the interdisciplinary field of urban design by providing opportunities for case studies to test and apply new insights, theory, and designs to contemporary and future challenges.
Students will learn to apply a range of design tools, including digital modeling for urban design, geographic information systems, urban micro-climate tools, and ecological performance indicators. Our program director is a leading researcher in urban climate science, and our Urban Climate Lab contributes to the critical dialog in New York City and other cities confronting climate change. Our popular study abroad program has been integrated into the design studio sequence, and our summer break prior to the third (final) semester encourages students to take on internships with New York-based firms or agencies.
