About Dual Degree - Bachelor of Arts - Child and Family Studies & Bachelor of Education - Intermediate/Senior (PEB)
Students will first complete their Bachelor of Arts in Child and Family Studies. Once complete they will move into the two years of their Bachelor of Education.
This program is designed for students who are fascinated with how children grow and become healthy adults, have a particular interest in learning about families and what they need to succeed, or is considering a career in developmental, behavioral, social, and/or community services where they can make a real difference.
Child and Family Studies at Nipissing University takes an interdisciplinary, lifespan approach to learning about children and adults, in the context of families and the world in which we live. It focuses on applied learning, which means making links between theory and the real world, and having opportunities to apply what's learned in the classroom to diverse community settings.
This is one of the only undergraduate programs in Canada that offers coursework and practicum placements in applied behavior analysis and program evaluation and applied research.
After completing their Bachelor of Arts, students will begin Nipissing University's Bachelor of Education program, which was one of the first pre-service teacher education programs to be fully accredited by the Ontario College of Teachers.
The Bachelor of Education program is part of the Schulich School of Education and meets the requirements of the Ontario College of Teachers for teacher certification (Certificate of Qualification). It is open to applicants presenting proof of graduation with an approved undergraduate degree from an accredited university. The program provided by the Schulich School of Education is rigorous and demands a high degree of commitment. To be successful, a student must display sensitivity to pupils, a sense of responsibility to the teaching profession, and a respect for knowledge.
Candidates may apply to enroll in one of three divisions in the program:
P/J -- Primary/Junior (Junior Kindergarten to Grade 6)
J/I -- Junior/Intermediate (Grades 4 to 10)
I/S -- Intermediate/Senior (Grades 7 to 12)
Upon successful completion of all six years, students graduate with both a Bachelor of Arts and a Bachelor of Education degree.
