About Bachelor of Science - Molecular Biology and Biotechnology

Biotechnologists use modern biological techniques and knowledge of biology, chemistry, biochemistry, and mathematics to find solutions to problems and develop new products with living systems and organisms. This program focuses on molecular biology in order to enhance the theoretical foundation and applications of the fastest-developing field of modern biology. Molecular biology and biotechnology (MBBT) majors will be prepared for research careers or health professional schools, equipped with the skills and lab techniques to succeed.

Molecular Biology and Biotechnology Student Learning Outcomes:
  • Students will demonstrate knowledge of the central dogma of biology and predict outcomes when the process malfunctions.
  • Students will demonstrate ability to use evolutionary theory and related equations to model and predict population change or stability.
  • Students will demonstrate ability to evaluate the impact of structure/part modification on a biological system and/or relationships between systems.
  • Students will demonstrate application of the formal practices of observation, experimentation, and hypothesis testing.
  • Students will demonstrate ability to evaluate pertinent values to ethical dilemmas using multiple ethical frameworks.
  • Students will demonstrate ability to communicate knowledge about a research topic including organization, critical analysis, content, presentation, formatting, and stylistic choices.
