About College Diploma - Surveying and Geospatial Engineering Technology

Geomatics Engineering Technology provides education and training in the collection, analysis, storage, distribution and application of spatial (3D) data used in land development.

The program emphasizes the use of technology for data collection, including electronic equipment for measuring, satellites for positioning and computers for processing data. Students will learn how to effectively apply the latest tools and techniques to generate plans used across a wide variety of professional disciplines.

Prospective students should have a strong aptitude for mathematics and computer skills, and enjoy working outdoors in all types of weather. Strong organizational skills are also an asset.

Hands-on, industry-relevant skills

Through the course of this 2-year diploma program, students will learn how to make surveying calculations and become familiar with:

  • surveying field methods
  • cadastral studies
  • cartography
  • geographic information systems (GIS)
  • global navigation satellite systems theory and applications
  • survey plan preparation
  • effective communications
  • AutoCAD, MicroSurvey, StarNET and ESRI GIS software
As part of their field training, students can expect to spend 1 day each week using surveying equipment outdoors.
