Bachelor of Arts - Spanish

There are 40 million Spanish speakers in the United States, and the Spanish-speaking population is growing rapidly. With over 400 million speakers, Spanish is the second most commonly spoken language in the world. Spanish is an official language on four continents and is a native language in 21 countries, including the United States.

As a Spanish major at Ohio Wesleyan University students will learn how to understand, speak, read, and write Spanish, so they can communicate well with native Spanish speakers, and they will gain an understanding of the diverse cultures that exist within the countries where Spanish is spoken. The university's beginning and intermediate level Spanish courses focus on honing students' communication skills in the language, and at the advanced level they will have an opportunity to delve deeper into various topics related to the Spanish-speaking world and learn how to analyze and interpret authentic cultural materials with an awareness of the sociocultural, historical, and political contexts in which cultural production takes place.
