About Bachelor of Arts (Honours) - Philosophy (QA)

The Philosophy program at Queen’s provides students with critical thinking and reading skills, enabling them to uncover hidden assumptions, identify core premises, evaluate arguments and communicate ideas effectively. Study Ancient, Modern, and post-19th Century thinkers as they investigate key questions in Metaphysics, Epistemology, Ethics, and Political Philosophy. The program's courses offer a range of perspectives, from broad investigations of perennial topics to problem-based inquiries.

Top 5 Reasons to study Philosophy:

  1. Philosophy puts students in dialogue with society’s brightest minds, from the ancients to more cutting-edge contemporary thinkers.
  2. Philosophy is a gateway to professional degrees — Law, Medicine, Public Policy, and more.
  3. Students gain analytical skills, and can better understand presuppositions behind arguments.
  4. Philosophy will teach students to challenge their own worldview.
  5. The program offers exchange opportunities to more than 100 schools in over 30 countries.

Note: Students in this program are also eligible for the Queen’s Undergraduate Internship Program (QUIP) which provides 2nd or 3rd year students with a 12-16 month work experience. The internship normally occurs following the student’s third year of study, after which the student completes the final year of the honours degree. The internships are paid, professionally supervised, career-related positions offering students the opportunity to learn about current advances, practices, and technologies in business and industry.
