About Bachelor of Arts - Philosophy
Program Description
The Global Student Success Office is committed to supporting a student's journey at Queens College from their initial application through to graduation. The office assists with many aspects of a student's life, including expediting their admission process, offering orientation programs as they transition to the American classroom, and providing academic and social experiences scheduled throughout the year.
Whether students are required to participate in the Undergraduate Global Student Success Program or enroll through General Admission, they will have access to service and support provided by the Global Student Success Office.
Philosophy involves the pursuit of fundamental questions, such as the nature of reality, truth, justice, values, ethics, reason, science, and faith. It offers careful training in inquiry, critical thinking, and the construction of well-reasoned arguments. Coursework includes philosophical questions, methods, history, and systems of thought.
Although philosophy is sometimes thought of as a luxury or “ivory tower” discipline, PayScale’s research has found that it actually ranks as the top-earning humanities major. The mental discipline students acquire and their facility with complex reasoning are valued highly by employers who seek innovative problem solvers and executives.
Further, philosophy has historically offered a high road to the study of law. Graduates go on not only to graduate school in philosophy, but to law and medical school, math and the sciences, business and finance, and other intellectually demanding careers.
