About Undergraduate GSSP - Sociology (3-Semester Mixed Pathway) Transfer to Bachelor of Arts - Sociology at Queens College of The City University of New York

Program Description

Global Student Success Program (GSSP)

Queens College Global Student Success Program (GSSP) is a required first-year experience program designed by academic experts covering all aspects of a student's new living and learning environment in the United States.

As a Queens College student from day one, they will enjoy the added benefits of smaller classes where they will receive more personalized attention, and access to academic advisors and tutoring as well as opportunities to connect with other international and American students through a variety of social activities, student clubs and organizations.

In the attempt to understand how societies work, sociology addresses and integrates a wide variety of areas, including many that overlap other disciplines, such as psychology, the economy, politics and political structures, and culture. Among its topics are social institutions, rules, networks, movements, and organizations. Students also acquire perspective on the societal and institutional significance of race, gender, class, and other social differences. Coursework includes theory, methods, and introductions to specializations (such as sociology of medicine).

Graduates have not only a knowledge of social processes and institutions, but strong, up-to-date research, digital, and writing skills. They are prepared for graduate study in sociology and other social and behavioral sciences or for graduate and professional studies in social work, law, urban planning, journalism, and related fields. They also are prepared for junior-level positions in health, education, and welfare; public opinion and market research; or research and administration in large-scale public and private organizations.
