Films are made to tell a story. This course gives you an understanding of the creative processes involved in filmmaking. You'll learn how to adapt your skills to fit briefs and create a showreel that'll place you at the forefront of the industry – where you will be ready to launch your career.

Many graduates didn't even know their job existed when they started. That's why this is such an exciting degree – it opens doors to a huge range of employment possibilities.

You'll explore the full breadth of filmmaking – from idea generation to production – exploring all facets of production across drama, documentary, studio live broadcast and advertising. Examining different styles and techniques, you’ll learn to construct fresh, persuasive, compelling stories and manage the production process from start to finish. You'll investigate how ideas are developed, packaged and distributed and take into account cultural contexts and relationships between storyteller and audience.

Throughout your, degree you'll work with peers to respond to a variety of briefs and produce short dramas, documentaries, live studio projects and adverts – culminating in a final year film project. You'll also have exclusive access to opportunities including:

  • Collaborating with the world-famous Abbey Road Institute to score and record soundtracks.
  • Attending, networking and showcasing work at Aesthetica Short Film Festival – a BAFTA-qualifying festival celebrating independent film from around the world.
  • Entering the annual Student Royal Television Society Awards
  • Collaborating with students from the Delamar Academy of Make up & Hair, Ealing Studios.
As well as:

  • Attending guest lectures with industry experts
  • Joining workshops with industry leaders, producers, screenwriters
  • Working on live industry briefs, client pitches and presentations
  • Learning from award-winning tutors who have developed Hollywood films, broadcasts for Channel 4 and BBC and worked with award winning ads directors
  • Choosing to study abroad in your second year
  • Finding placements (previously students have worked at the BBC, BFI)
  • Developing a portfolio of your campaigns and creative work

In your Foundation year, you'll gain a solid grounding in academic skills and principles, as well as an introduction to your chosen subject area. It will provide a rich and varied experience to ensure you’re prepared for degree-level study in the UK – ready to develop specialist knowledge and confidently make the most of your course. Some modules will be taken with students heading towards the same or related subject areas, while others will be taken with a blend of students – enabling you to mix with peers who bring a range of different perspectives and experiences to the classroom. You’ll take two modules related to your subject area and eight shared modules covering key skills like communication, critical thinking, cultural understanding, politics, data, creativity and entrepreneurship. Once you’ve successfully completed your Foundation year, you’ll directly progress to Year 1 of your chosen degree-level course.
