2-Term Advanced Pathway - International Year One - Transfer to Bachelor of Arts - History:
International Year One allows students to take credited SF State preparation courses alongside additional academic and English language instruction. The vast range of credit courses on offer allows first-year students to both discover new fields and further explore already strong subjects. Once International Year One is completed, students proceed directly to their second year of degree study at SF State.
Bachelor of Arts - History:
History is the study of change in human societies over time. Undergraduates majoring in history may select advanced courses focusing upon the entire range of life within a nation or region during a given time period, or courses dealing with some specialized aspect of life (social history, economic history, etc.), or courses which explore the concepts and methodology of historical research and analysis. Upon the graduation with a Bachelor of Arts in History, students will be able to:
- Express knowledge about a geographic and chronological diversity of human experiences, identities, and relationships, both between people and between humans and the natural world, in order to understand the world beyond themselves.
- Approach complex issues in the past from multiple perspectives, understanding causal relationships in a way that allows them to recognize alternate and resonant ways of being in the world across time and space.
- Critically assess how power has operated in the past, developing the keen sense of empathy and appreciation for the humanity of others afforded by a perspective informed by social justice and an attention to diversity and inclusivity.
- Conduct their own research using primary sources in order to make compelling arguments about the past, situating their conclusions within the debates among historians.
- Organize evidence, communicate complex information, tell engaging stories, and persuade their audience using both written and oral forms of communication.
