About Graduate Certificate Bundle - Urban Design (PURBN) + Project Management (PPRJM) (Co-op)

Cities need designers who understand the built environment. This eight-month graduate certificate responds to that demand, teaching students to design inclusive and sustainable solutions that connect and integrate urban landscapes. Sheridan is one of the few colleges in Canada to offer this niche training, which is traditionally taught in master's level studies. Sheridan's state-of-the-art Hazel McCallion Campus is a living lab for urban designers, surrounded by new development in the heart of Mississauga. Students have the chance to propose real-world solutions during a field placement with an urban design firm or industry partner. Sheridan is well-known as a leader in design education. Students learn from professors who have strong academic backgrounds and extensive industry experience in built environments. They teach students how to apply software skills to create visualizations of urban environments. Students will also study concepts of mobility, wayfinding, placemaking, ecology and more.

The Project Management graduate certificate program gives students the skills they need to successfully manage projects in any discipline. This program prepares students to initiate, plan, execute, monitor and control a project to ensure its success. Specifically, students will learn to:

  • Identify clear project objectives and detailed project requirements.
  • Develop and monitor performance measures.
  • Create valuable project management plans.
  • Manage communication with all team members and project stakeholders.
  • Arrange and control finances.
  • Manage project constraints including scope, quality, cost and time.
The program gives a comprehensive foundation in project management and organizational management that applies to not-for-profit, for-profit and government organizations of all sizes. The activities, cases and projects are focused on small–medium sized projects, and are uniquely non-technical in their objectives and learning outcomes. Additionally, students will learn through:

  • Interactive classroom activities and numerous case studies.
  • Extensive assigned teams and collaborative activities.
  • Initiative engaging the local community throughout the program.
  • The Capstone experience working with an actual charity, government, or business organization on a real project that is valuable to them.
  • Mobile computing
Students have the option to work for one work term at the end of the program’s eight-month academic portion to gain further valuable real-world experience that is highly regarded by employers. This paid co-op/unpaid internship experience allows students to explore different career paths and apply classroom learning to additional actual business situations.
