The International Foundation Programme at Solent University has been designed for students who have already completed their High School education overseas meet the demands of undergraduate study in the UK. As such, substantial support is given for language development as well as building students' confidence and independence to learn effectively within this academic culture.
The Creative Industries Pathway introduces students to the key principles and skills in media, art, and design. Students will have the opportunity to develop their knowledge in an area of which they have a particular interest within the Creative Industries. The aim is to develop students' creative capacity, confidence, and skills so that they are able to communicate their ideas effectively. The course involves a Creative Project which allows students to build upon their ideas, well-preparing them to progress on to creative industries or media-related programme at undergraduate level.
The fine art degree at Solent University embraces all possible ways of making and thinking about fine art practice. Students will be taught new skills and techniques and will learn how to use a variety of mediums in order to produce art to a very high standard. They will have the opportunity to pursue the mediums, ideas and processes that they are most passionate about.
Solent's dedicated fine art studios are equipped to enable students to reach their full potential. Students will be allocated their own studio space and will have full access to a range of dedicated technical workshops, including a sculpture workshop with metalwork, welding, woodworking and casting equipment; a print-making workshop with intaglio, dry point, etching, silkscreen, woodcut and letterpress facilities; a digital print workshop with high-quality large-scale print facilities, high-end scanners and the latest software; and photography darkrooms and studios.
Students will also have the opportunity to use Solent's media academy facilities, boasting Mac suites with the latest design software, as well as a media store containing high-definition cameras, video cameras and sound equipment.
The course has strong industry and community links and students will be given the opportunity to engage in an ambitious programme of professional development alongside their own individual artistic practice. Students will create an online profile and curate and show their work in group exhibitions at professional galleries within the city.
