About Bachelor of Music Education - Instrumental

Program Description

The Music Education program at Southeast Missouri State is committed to encouraging the next generation of choir, band, orchestra and general music educators to find their place in the fulfilling work field, educating young musicians. Enrolling in the music education program provides specialization in either vocal music education, and includes coursework in the Holland College of Arts and Media as well as the College of Education, Health and Human Studies. Completion of this degree track grants the student certification to teach K-12 vocal and general music in the state of Missouri.

In this program, students will have chance to:
  • Grow as a musician through the study of your main instrument, secondary instruments and conducting.
  • Deepen your skill and understanding of the art of teaching music.
  • Perform in a wide range of performing ensembles, such as Wind Symphony and Marching Band
  • Gain real-world experiences through Project Based Learning, professional organizations such as NAfME Collegiate, and a sequence of 4 semesters of field experience in local schools.
Southeast’s education program differs from that of many other universities by providing you with extensive field experience, beginning with first-hand classroom training and observation during your freshman year and culminating in a full semester of student teaching during your senior year.  Our program is accredited by the National Association of Schools of Music.
