About Master of Arts in Teaching - Bilingual/Elementary Education
The Master of Arts in Teaching, Bilingual and Elementary Education is the only MAT of its kind in Connecticut. It is intended for future educators who are seeking initial certification in elementary education and an additional endorsement in bilingual education. Students also receive a state-approved Master’s degree. There are opportunities throughout the program for students to get real-world experience through field placement observations. Additionally, the program culminates in a semester-long student teaching experience in a bilingual classroom.
Learning outcomes of Master of Arts in Teaching Program:
- Use the best practices in effectively dealing with typical and atypical students, as well as English Language Learners (ELLs).
- Differentiate teaching to accommodate the varied needs of students.
- Use the best practices in classroom management and effectively display these practices in supervised settings to ensure that they are classroom ready.
- Successfully complete a semester-long student teaching placement.
- Integrate best practices to teach their specialty-area subject matter and effectively reach each learner in their classroom.
