Master of Science by Research - Theoretical Physics

The MSc by Research in Theoretical Physics offers students the opportunity to engage in a year-long individual research program that is both personally and professionally enriching.

Students participating in this program will shape their theoretical physics research project through involvement in activities such as seminars, workshops, laboratory work, and field research, as well as by joining one of Swansea's established research groups.

Upon completion of the research program, students may have the option to progress to the second year of a PhD degree, depending on the circumstances.

Swansea's research outputs from both experimental and theoretical groups have been recognized as world-leading or internationally excellent, with over 80% meeting this standard (REF 2014-2021).

Swansea is home to three main research groups, including the Atomic, Molecular and Quantum Physics Group (AMQP), which receives support from various funding sources such as EPSRC, the EU, The Royal Society, the Higher Education Funding Council for Wales, and industrial and government entities.
