TAFE NSW's Diploma of Community Services builds on students' core competency, develops their specialised skills and equips them for a rewarding career in the community services sector.

Learn to develop and implement service programs and trauma-informed care, analyse the impact of sociological factors on clients, and facilitate workplace debriefing and support processes. Depending on the elective subjects students choose, they may also learn to coordinate complex case requirements, assess co-existing needs, and identify and respond to children and young people at risk.

This course provides students with job-ready skills and advanced knowledge to work effectively as a caseworker or manager, welfare worker, team leader or domestic violence officer in the community.

Bachelor of Social Work at University of Wollongong:

Skills for practice: students will develop skills to work effectively with people, and use critical insights to understand people and social problems.

Enactment of social justice: enacting social justice is a core requirement when working with individuals, families or communities, and for social researchers and policy developers.

Engaging with community: engaging with communities on joint projects is an important part of Social Work, and is central in the program.

Supervised professional practice: in the final years of the degree, students will gain supervised professional practice experience in human service agencies.

This is where students will develop the skills and knowledge necessary for a career as a social worker.
