About Bachelor of Science - Mechanical Engineering

Mechanical engineering is a diverse discipline that encompasses the teaching, practice and leadership of others in the development and application of scientific principles to mechanical systems. Mechanical engineering covers the ability to solve problems that deliver and optimize safe, sustainable and ethical solutions for the design, production and operation of devices, machines, structures, processes and systems involving mechanical elements.

Their undergraduate program, described as ME4.0, will be unique in Texas and possibly the nation because, from its inception, it will be developed around Industry 4.0 concepts. Graduates of this program will have a strong foundation in traditional ME principles combined with a unique education in designing and developing mechanical systems that are intelligent, interconnected, and integrated with the virtual world and emerging digital infrastructure. Students will be prepared to work with Industry 4.0 tools and technologies such as sensor systems, real-time communication, big data and analytics, engineering simulation, additive manufacturing including rapid prototyping, and human-machine collaborations. ME4.0 tools and technologies will be embedded in courses, curriculum, and facilities. The primary objective of the program is to prepare students to enter the ME workforce with the ability to understand and implement Industry 4.0 concepts.

Graduates of the program will acquire highly marketable skills and core ME and ME4.0 competencies and will become the next generation of engineering leaders in the state of Texas.
