About 1-Semester Pathway - Pre-Master's (Academic Modules) in Children and Young People - Continue to Master of Arts - Childhood Studies

The Childhood Development pathway is a single course that concludes with an MA from Swansea's College of Human and Health Sciences. The course will help students explore how children develop from birth, how they acquire the ability to learn and think for themselves and how their development is influenced by family and community.

Childhood Studies MA

Studying a Master’s degree in Childhood Studies will give students the knowledge and skills to support children and their families in a range of environments. Students will develop a keen understanding of issues related to child development in contemporary society and how policy and services for children and families are planned and provided. Throughout their studies, students will refine critical research and analytical skills valued by employers and develop professional reflective practice techniques.

Based in Swansea's College of Human and Health Sciences, students will benefit from a diverse teaching and research environment, with many opportunities to make connections across disciplines. Swansea University have strong links with a range of research networks and similar departments in universities in Europe and around the world, so students' learning is informed by the latest policy and practice developments.

The postgraduate qualification in Childhood Studies opens up a range of career opportunities in sectors including:
  • Children and young people’s services
  • Counselling
  • Local, national and international policy development
  • Research
