About Master of Arts - Human Rights and Social Justice (Course-Based)

Please note: The tuition listed is for the entire program.

Students will get hands-on experience with local and regional social justice issues designed to engage and empower communities. And opportunities to pursue national or international rights and justice projects, so they're confident and competent to act effectively in a global context.

The program draws from all areas within TRU's Faculty of Arts and offers innovative, interdisciplinary courses built and taught by teams of subject matter experts.

In the Creative Expression option, students develop an original and substantial creative expression project related to issues of human rights and social justice under the direction of a faculty supervisor and an advisory committee. Creative expression can include, but are not limited to, art exhibits, creative writing, theatre production.

What will students learn?

• Discuss social issues like access to water, and what access to water may mean for a village.

• Examine serious issues that hold tremendous professional, personal and organizational costs.

• Become an engaged global citizen and problem solver who can tackle problems from multiple perspectives.

• Critique current systems and provide solutions

• Position their organization to adapt to a changing world and shifting social mores.

• Navigate the changing landscape of hiring diversity

In the Course-Based option students will create an e-portfolio summarizing their experiences and learning within the MA program.

After graduation, students will be prepared for work with provincial, national, or international NGOs, various levels of government, and private sector companies that adhere to corporate social responsibility.

If students want to go on to further studies after this program, their MA in Human Rights and Social Justice also provides graduate education complementary to other programs such as Social Work and Law, or further studies in PhD programs.
