About Bachelor of Arts - Accounting
Program Description
The Troy University School of Accountancy is committed to providing students the accounting education required to enter the accounting profession and to pursue a successful professional career. The Troy University School of Accountancy offers an undergraduate accounting curriculum that provides the foundation for entering the accounting profession in the public, private, or governmental area.
An undergraduate degree in accounting will also give students a strong foundation in business-related topics such as marketing, finance, and management. Earning their degree in Accounting gives students flexibility in choosing employment or furthering their education. If they choose immediate employment, students will have the skills to obtain an entry-level position in a public, private, or governmental entity. If students choose to further their education, they will have the coursework necessary to enter graduate programs in accounting such as the Master of Accountancy.
TROY students will have an opportunity to seek a paid internship at one of the many local, regional and national firms or private company businesses and governmental agencies that recruit students from Troy University. The internships generally begin in January and last approximately three months. Importantly, the internship program is part of the accounting curriculum, so participation in the internship program does not delay graduation.
Students will also have the opportunity to participate in the recruiting activities sponsored by the School of Accountancy. TROY's annual Accountancy Day and Meet-the-Firms events provide networking opportunities with Certified Public Accounting (CPA) firms as well as governmental agencies and private company industry representatives.
Students will have the opportunity to enhance their interview skills through workshops co-sponsored with the Alabama Society of CPAs, Becker CPA Review, and ITAC Solutions. As a TROY student, students may also join the American Institute of Certified Public Accountants (AICPA)—one of the most prestigious professional organizations in the United States—as well as the Alabama Society of CPAs.
School of Accountancy Internship Program
The mission of the School of Accountancy is to prepare students for career opportunities with increasing professional and managerial responsibility in regional public accounting firms as well as government and industry in the Southeastern United States and prepare undergraduate students for admission to graduate programs in accounting and business.
To achieve this, the School of Accountancy facilitates a paid internship program (three credit hours) that will allow our students an opportunity for real-life accounting experience that takes them from the classroom into the real world. Recruiters have several opportunities each academic year to network with our students at on-campus events, such as Accountancy Day, Spring Meet the Firms, and Accounting Society meetings. Many of these internships result in full-time employment during the undergraduate program.
The School of Accountancy provides many opportunities for students to improve their networking and interview skills. Because our faculty members have significant, real-world experience, course instruction focuses not only on vital concepts but also on practical application of these concepts. TROY’s Accounting Advisory Council provides valuable guidance to the program, ensuring that the program is structured to meet the needs of accounting professionals and the business community.
Troy University’s undergraduate degree in Accounting prepares students for the challenges and opportunities of today’s complex business environment as well as those of the future.
An undergraduate degree from the Troy University School of Accountancy provides you with:
