About Master of Accountancy

Program Description

Troy University’s Master of Accountancy is a professional, 30-hour program that focuses on preparation for the Certified Public Accountant (CPA) examination and your career in public accounting, industry or government. With your Master of Accountancy, you will also be prepared to pursue additional higher education if you choose.

Courses in this program will help you review and apply accounting knowledge and increase your understanding of how professional accountants interact with management and other professionals in the business community.

You will learn how to research complex accounting and tax issues to provide business solutions to your clients and supervisors, you will develop skills in making and communicating professional judgments to management and stakeholders, and you will develop your critical thinking skills so that you become confident in providing good judgments and solutions to business problems.

Through a partnership between TROY and a CPA review program, you will prepare for and take parts of the CPA examination as soon as you complete the relevant coursework. By the time you finish the program, you will have taken all parts of the CPA examination, making it possible to go directly from graduate student to CPA.

As a TROY student, you can also begin networking with our many business partners. You will join the American Institute of Certified Public Accountants (AICPA), one of the most prestigious professional organizations in the United States, as well as the Alabama Society of CPAs. You will be encouraged to participate in professional activities and to join other professional associations including the Accounting Society.

As a graduate, you can seek prestigious employment opportunities in all areas of business from private practice to governmental and regulatory agencies. CPAs earn 10-15 percent more than non-CPAs working in accounting-related jobs according to the AICPA. Other studies have shown an even larger earnings gap.
