About Bachelor of Arts (Honours) - Film Production

Program Description

BA (Hons) Film Production at UCA Farnham has produced high-profile alumni who have contributed to multiple global movie successes including Star Wars, Godzilla, Harry Potter and Mission Impossible and have achieved recognition at BAFTA and Oscar level.

Students will graduate with a strong portfolio of work, with sought-after specialist skills and the practical filmmaking experience employers really want. UCA graduates have gone on to work with organisations such as the BBC, Channel 4, Envy, Art4noise, Splice Media and many others.

At UCA they  believe in learning through doing, which is why the course is 75% practical and 25% theoretical. Coursework is screened at national and international competitions and festivals, providing a strong springboard for a future filmmaking career.

Students will work alongside Photography students in their preparatory first year and explore the relationship between sound and still imagery, the framing of spaces and places, theoretical perspectives on representation, storytelling for the camera, and they’ll develop their own moving image project.

From the beginning, students will become part of a close-knit creative team, making films as they would in the film industry. Students will explore the different aspects of filmmaking and establish themselves in a key specialist role.

Students will learn about the business of film, the production process from beginning to end and networking and communication skills to set them up for a career in the industry.

This is one of the few courses where students can still combine the latest digital techniques with shooting and editing on 16mm film. At UCA they have a tradition of training aspiring filmmakers on 16mm – this has a proven effectiveness for developing visual literacy and fostering the discipline and planning that will help them excel.
