About Bachelor of Science (Honours) - Accounting and Finance (N400)
On the BSc Accounting and Finance degree, students will be taught using a variety of methods by leading researchers and academics who have worked professionally in the accounting and finance sector.
Students will study at one of the handful of business schools in the UK that holds the prestigious ‘triple-crown’ accreditation from the Association to Advance Collegiate Schools of Business (AACSB), the Association of MBAs (AMBA) and the European Quality Improvement System (EQUIS).
Students' employability options are vast and varied, the University of Birmingham's strong links with industry mean that rigorous undergraduate academic study is combined with a real practical focus, leading to excellent job opportunities.
The University of Birmingham is ranked number one for being targeted by the top UK employers (High Fliers Research 2021)
On successful completion of this degree, students may be eligible for exemptions from a number of professional examinations offered by the Association of Chartered Certified Accountants (ACCA), the Institute of Chartered Accountants England and Wales (ICAEW) and the Chartered Institute of Management Accountants (CIMA).
The finance pathway of this programme is affiliated with the CISI, CFA and IMC. This means the curriculum for this programme is closely tied to professional practice and prepares students well to sit the examinations of CFA, CISI and IMC. Scholarships from CFA and CISI will be offered every year to selected students who take the CFA and CISI examinations during their programme.
The first year is designed to raise students' knowledge and understanding so that they are operating at degree level. It doesn’t count towards their final degree classification, but students must pass it to proceed.
The second year of this programme allows students to take optional modules in the form of pathways, which most suit their interests and maximise their exemptions from those areas. The second year contributes 25% of the final degree classification and the third year 75%.
On this programme, students will be offered the exciting opportunity to study for an additional year at one of the University of Birmingham's highly regarded partner institutions across the world. This gives students the chance to continue to study a language they have already taken at GCSE or AS level, or even to start a new language. Students may choose to study in countries where English is the spoken language, but some of the European partners also offer programmes in English.
If students take up this option, this international study will take place in the third year and students will then return to the UK for their fourth year to complete the final (3rd year) year of the programme.
The number of places at each institution varies from year to year so students will need to be flexible about where they go, but remember there are many advantages of choosing to go to a country outside one's comfort zone. A Year Abroad tutor within the Business School will provide students with support before and during their international study experience.
