About Bachelor of Science (Honours) - Chemistry with a Modern Language (F1R9)

A dynamic, ever-evolving subject, chemistry offers a route into a range of careers in a multitude of industries. The BSc Chemistry with Modern Language programme combines students' love of chemistry with their love of languages, a great stepping stone for working abroad or using a foreign language in their career.

Choosing this unique three-year course can make students stand out when it comes to applying for a job as global corporations, who have a presence outside of the UK, will likely view a bilingual applicant in a very favourable light. Students can choose to study one of five languages at the University of Birmingham: French, German, Japanese, Mandarin or Spanish. Chinese and Japanese are only available from beginner level. French, German and Spanish have 8 levels available (from beginner to post A level).

A broad outlook on the chemistry offers students the chance to play their part in solving some of the century’s most complex problems in healthcare, medicine, sustainability and the environment, graduating with strong analytical abilities, the confidence to propose innovative solutions, and highly developed lab skills. Students will also learn about the latest developments in cutting-edge research, equipping them to take the first step on their career path or the next step in their studies.

Students can experience the pioneering teaching and research offered here for more than 100 years, producing several Nobel Prize-winners along the way. Coupled with the use of some of the best facilities in the country, the University of Birmingham is regularly placed among the top chemistry departments in UK for student satisfaction.
