Bachelor of Science (Honours) - Psychology with Year Abroad (C802)

This BPS-accredited Psychology BSc degree covers the full breadth of the field of psychology in combination with the unique experience of studying one year abroad.

In the first two years of the degree, students will be immersed in a set of core modules, covering fundamental elements of psychology as well as psychological research methods and subject-related skills, including coding, public engagement, digital skills and entrepreneurship. Students will discover the psychological and brain mechanisms supporting many of the key elements of what it is to be human, including the ability to learn, understand speech and perceive the world. Students will also develop their skills as a researcher and collaborator by conducting psychological research projects in groups.

Between the second and final year in the University of Birmingham, students will take a year abroad to expand their horizons and develop their skills and experiences in a global environment. Students select their own placement at any non-UK university approved by the International Relations Office. Recent destinations include the USA, Canada, Australia, Hong Kong, Singapore and Japan.

In the final year, students will choose high-level specialist subject modules, allowing them to concentrate on the themes and topics that interest them most. Students will also complete an independent Research Project. Under the guidance of a supervisor, students will design a study in their chosen research area, analyse and interpret the data, and prepare a presentation and written report. This is a substantial piece of work that allows students to develop in-depth knowledge of a specific sub-field of psychology.

The Psychology BSc with Year Abroad will provide students with a broad knowledge of contemporary psychology and with the opportunity to specialise in the topics that interest them most.
