About Bachelor of Arts (Honours) - Contemporary History (V140)

Contemporary History program focuses on modern history, from the nineteenth to the twenty-first century, with a particular emphasis on themes of historical change and struggle. Traditional approaches to history are questioned, drawing from disciplines such as politics and cultural studies in the exploration of historical themes. Students will not only study historical events, but also delve into the mechanics of history as a discipline, its production, and its social and political implications.

Throughout the Contemporary History degree program, students will analyze ongoing global issues, such as the rise of dominant powers and the evolution of racism worldwide. They will also examine the marginalization of certain groups in historical narratives, exploring ways in which these groups can reclaim and share their own histories. Additionally, students will investigate the historical issues embedded within the structures and systems that shape contemporary society.

Learning occurs in small seminar groups, where students will enhance their ability to construct persuasive arguments and engage in debates.
