Bachelor of Arts (Honours) - Archaeology and History

Program Description

Archaeology is the study of the human past, from the hunter-gatherers of Ice Age Europe to the inhabitants of early modern cities. Students at Chester will discover what life was like for these past societies, and learn the techniques and approaches that we use to study them. In doing so they will develop a suite of new specific and transferrable skills that will provide the foundation for their future, whatever career they wish to pursue.

Chester is an exciting place to study History – a Roman and medieval town with a key role in the Civil War that remains the capital of Cheshire.

At Chester, the study of history ranges from the fall of Rome to Cold War America. You can explore turning points in history, the Vikings, the Crusades, the Consumer Revolution, the Reformations, the Witch-Craze, the English Civil War, the Holocaust, and minorities and migration in the 19th and 20th centuries.

The Department currently works with the Grosvenor Museum in Chester, and currently has use of the Cheshire Record Office and the Cheshire Military Museum archives.
