About Academic Accelerator - Bachelor of Science - Education - Secondary Catholic Religious Education

Program Description

The Academic Accelerator Program (AAP) is a two-semester program designed specifically for students who are ready to succeed in immersive English-speaking classrooms, but who also want the benefit of English-language and student support to help them thrive. The program curriculum offers a balance of university-wide and AAP-exclusive courses, with English-language course supplements that equip students with the practical, subject-specific vocabulary and skills they need to excel in their coursework.

As an Academic Accelerator student at UDayton Global you'll receive:
  • The right amount of support when you need it.
  • A seat in credit-bearing courses, so you can earn a full freshman year’s worth of credits while taking courses tailored to your needs as an international student. This will help you achieve your academic and career goals.
  • English-language instruction designed around your social and academic needs.
  • Integrated and cohorted courses, so you’ll be in some classes with U.S. students and others with your designated UDayton Global cohort.

As a Catholic, Marianist institution, the University of Dayton seeks to collaborate with local Catholic churches and schools in providing creative ways to serve those pursuing a career in church ministry.

The Archdiocese of Cincinnati, University of Dayton Center for Catholic Education, UD Department of Religious Studies, UD Institute for Pastoral Initiatives, and the UD School of Education and Health Sciences work together to provide options for those preparing to be high school religion teachers:

  • Major in adolescence to young adult education with two concentrations (religious education and another field of your choice): Upon graduation, you'll receive a teaching license from the State of Ohio for the area of concentration you selected, as well as a certificate to teach religion from the Archdiocese of Cincinnati.
  • Major in adolescence to young adult education with religion as your sole teaching field: Focus on particular aspects of religion and Christianity. Upon graduation, you'll receive a certificate to teach religion from the Archdiocese of Cincinnati.
  • Major in religious studies, with an emphasis on Catholic schools (offered through the UD College of Arts and Sciences): Upon graduation, you'll receive a certificate to teach religion from the Archdiocese of Cincinnati.

No matter which option you choose, you'll gain hands-on classroom experience, learn theories and methods of education, and take religious studies content courses.
