About Bachelor of Science - Finance and Management (Including Year Abroad) (N345)
This course is designed to give students career flexibility after graduation. The School helps the students develop the quantitative skills appropriate for the finance sector, as well as the qualitative, discursive skills appropriate for management and leadership. Students may seek to lead a finance team within an organisation, pursue a career as a financial analyst or use their business knowledge to work in any area of management. In their third year, they also have the option to undertake a paid work placement to develop their professional skills and further enhance their CV.
The BSc Finance and Management degree teaches students about how businesses make financial decisions and study international financial markets. Their management modules also develop the necessary skills and knowledge to be an effective leader.
Real-life examples are used to apply theory to practice and students regularly have access to the virtual trading floor. Here, they can learn how to use real-world Bloomberg data, information and analytics to make better business decisions and practice trading stocks and securities using X_TRADER. This industry leading software enables them to trade multiple markets from a single screen.
Management topics may include:

Finance topics may include:

The first year is an introduction to finance, management, accounting and economics so that students receive a fully-rounded business education. As their course progresses, they can tailor their studies to their career aspirations by choosing from a selection of optional modules.
In the final year, students have the opportunity to put their knowledge into practice by completing an in-depth, independent research project or dissertation. This gives them the chance to further develop vital employability skills in areas of research, time management and critical thinking.
The BSc Finance and Management course is taught by Essex Business School and it is ranked 25th in the UK for research quality (The Times and Sunday Times Good University Guide 2019).
This course can also be taken with an optional study abroad or placement year in students’ third year.
