2-Term Pathway - Pre-Master's in Social Sciences - Continue to Master of Science - Finance

If students hold a bachelor’s degree or equivalent, but don’t meet the entry requirements for a master’s, a Pre-Master’s can help them gain a place on a postgraduate degree. For progression to the 1st year of a postgraduate degree at the University of Essex. Course length is determined mainly by students' English language level (UKVI IELTS score).

Students on all course lengths take a set of common or similar modules to gain a solid base of skills for university. If their course is longer than 2 terms, students will take additional modules designed to improve one or more of their English language level, academic skills, and basic knowledge of particular subjects.

The University of Essex MSc Finance is the flagship Master’s degree of their finance disciplines at Essex Business School. It delivers a solid base in Finance for those with a strong quantitative and financial background who wish to move into a career in the finance sector or as a route towards academia.

This Masters in Finance has been developed to meet the needs of a global finance sector that is still partially in recovery and in need of decisive leadership and new thinking. Students will learn using case studies, real-life data from the Bloomberg data feed and established financial models. Students will learn when and what to question and how their unique skillsets can make an impact. Students will master core areas of finance, such as: asset pricing, portfolio analysis, derivative securities, advanced mathematics, banking operations, and hedging financial risk.
