The photography & new media curriculum at the University of Europe for Applied Sciences aims to take students on a journey through the photography industry. From General Design Foundations and Photographic Key Concepts in the first two semesters, students can tailor the programme to fit their preferences with multiple projects to choose from including Photography as Narrative and Applied Photographic Practice. Those who choose to study photography at UE also have the opportunity to pursue an internship or semester abroad during the fifth semester of the bachelor’s degree in photography.
UE nurtures students’ unique photographic vision and independence, promoting experimentation and social responsibility. The programme offers diverse photography genres and interdisciplinary electives, supporting various projects. With small class sizes and personalised attention, UE helps students discover their strengths and distinctive style. Taught by industry-renowned photographers, this programme opens doors to careers in image editing, freelancing, and advertising. In today’s competitive landscape, creativity and soft skills are crucial alongside technical proficiency.
A bachelor’s degree in Photography & New Media opens numerous career paths, such as image editor, art buyer, retoucher, or curator. The programme is divided into module groups. Basic modules cover creative skills like light, colour design, image composition, and both analogue and digital workflows. Theoretical subjects provide an overview of historical and contemporary developments in art, photography, design, and film. Project modules allow specialisation in photography genres. Students can use UE's professional equipment for their projects.
Interdisciplinary courses, workshops, and study trips let students gain knowledge from other design courses. Options for internships in Germany or abroad, or guest study programmes at partner universities, aim to broaden personal and professional horizons before the final semester, which focuses on defining each student’s individual photographic profile.
