About Master of Arts - Social Work

Social workers support and empower individuals to make positive changes and improve their lives. They work to protect vulnerable people while respecting and promoting human rights. Upon successful completion of this intensive Master’s route, graduates will be eligible to apply for registration as a registered Social Worker with Social Work England.

The teaching staff are registered social work practitioners, bringing specific areas of knowledge and expertise to the programme. Successful completion of this programme will allow graduates to apply for registration with Social Work England. Once registered, they can choose to practice in their preferred field, whether in children and families or adults, and across a wide range of areas within statutory, voluntary, private, and independent sectors.

The teaching programme is dynamic, interactive, and experiential. Through academic and applied learning, this programme provides a balance of theoretical frameworks and interactive practical work experiences in social work and social care settings.

Students will engage in studies that equip them with the necessary knowledge, skills, and theoretical frameworks that inform all areas of social work practice with adults and children.

With an emphasis on experiential learning, the programme includes working in small tutorial and seminar groups, simulations, role play, group work, and opportunities to develop reflective and critical debate.
