Accredited by The Institution of Engineering and Technology and the Engineering Council, the Electrical and Electronic Engineering (Extended), BEng Hons course starts with a foundation year to prepare students for degree-level study. It covers fundamentals such as electrical circuits and control and instrumentation, electromagnetic waves, and the design of communication networks.
Students will carry out a project in a subject of their choice and develop their professional skills through modules designed to prepare them for a successful career in engineering. Popular areas for graduates to enter include telecommunications, control or electrical power and emerging technologies.
Learners on this undergraduate course can benefit from the University of Greenwich's 3,000sqm of specialist labs, including telecoms, power, control and robotics labs. They'll also gain experience from the University's close industrial ties with companies such as BAE Systems, South Eastern Railways and Ford.
Students will be taught by an experienced team whose expertise and knowledge closely reflects the modules of this course. The team includes senior academics, professional practitioners with industry experience, lab technicians, and external experts who provide guest lectures on some modules. The PhD researchers also offer lab support, which the undergraduate students find very useful.
Learners opting for a sandwich year go to a range of companies and organizations of varying sizes for their placements, including large multi-national firms, government agencies, the NHS and small to medium sized companies engaged in research, analytical services and manufacturing. Previous students have worked with Eon, Dyson, ADEY, PS Analytical and E-liquids, GSK, NHS hospitals.
The Electrical and Electronic Engineering (Extended), BEng Hons graduates could work in a wide range of electrical and electronics applications, from telecommunications to control or electrical power to emerging technologies, finding roles across a wide range of organizations. They can also start their own business or pursue postgraduate study.
