Accredited by the Institute of Biomedical Science, the BSc (Hons) Biomedical Science (Extended) degree explores human health and disease. It focuses on many areas of medical and biosciences, examining the mechanisms of disease, diagnostic pathways and therapeutic intervention. The University of Greenwich's lecturers are experienced academics in areas including cell biology, cancer biology, microbiology and haematology.
This extended degree begins with a foundation year to prepare learners for degree-level learning. After this, they'll progress to the three-year BSc (Hons) degree, which includes practical modules, real-life clinical case studies and a research project.
Students go to a range of companies and organizations of varying sizes for their placements, including large multi-national firms, government agencies, the NHS and small to medium sized companies engaged in research, analytical services and manufacturing. Previous students have worked in Eon, Dyson, ADEY, PS Analytical and E-liquids, GSK, NHS hospitals.
This BSc (Hons) Biomedical Science (Extended) course will prepare students for employment in both the public and private healthcare sectors, including in the National Blood Service, Health Protection Agency and Medical Research Council, veterinary service, the Health and Safety Executive, forensic laboratories and the pharmaceutical industry.
