About Master of Science - Engineering Management with Industrial Practice

There's a growing need for engineers with solid management skills around the globe. Greenwich's Master's in Engineering Management with Industrial Practice has been developed to respond to the specific needs of the manufacturing and engineering sectors. This course offers a clear and focused alternative to traditional MBA degrees, and includes a year of study followed by a year-long, fully paid placement. A workplace mentor supports students throughout their placement year, helping them to set objectives and goals, and ensuring they receive appropriate training.

The industrial placement provides a valuable opportunity to work in state-of-the-art industrial laboratories. Students will gain advanced knowledge of leading techniques and processes and how these are applied in an industrial context, which contributes to their professional development as a scientist.

Students combine lab-based exercises with lectures, seminars, simulations and workshops to explore issues including finance and business planning, sustainability, global engineering and supply chain management. Graduates taking this course will gain the knowledge and skills for successful careers in local and global engineering management.

Core lectures will be delivered by members of the School of Engineering who are specialists in their respective fields. Guest lectures from industrialists or renowned researchers are often included to bring additional perspectives and ensure students are aligned with the latest international standards in their discipline. Guest speakers are often associated with the university in a role where they provide input to course development.

All the taught modules will be research-engaged and delivered though a mixture of interactive lectures and discussions, tutorials and case-studies. Most of the modules will also have a practical or computational component relevant to the theoretical concepts covered in the classroom. Individual research projects will form a major part of the learning process which will help students develop their ability to adapt and apply methodology to the solution of unfamiliar types of problems.

This Engineering Management with Industrial Practice programme is designed to give students the space for exploratory and independent study. They'll work towards individual and group assignments and undertake the preparation or follow-up work associated with lectures, seminars, integrative assignments and laboratory classes. Moreover, learners can take advantage of a range of extra-curricular opportunities available within the university and elsewhere.

Graduates can pursue management careers in the public and private sectors, including technology, engineering design and product development, manufacturing production, and supply chain (particularly in the fields of engineering management).
