About Bachelor of Arts (Honours) - Accounting and Finance

Students can now study an accounting and finance degree in London for opportunities with firms in the City and Canary Wharf and accreditation from professional accounting bodies, such as CIMA and ACCA. Due to the accreditation, students have a full professional level exemption from the ACCA, full exemption from the operational level of the CIMA qualification and 7 ICAEW papers.

The modules on Greenwich's Accounting and Finance degree include auditing, banking, taxation and strategic financial management, so students will gain the right skills and knowledge to kick-start their career.

Greenwich has an experienced team of academics and industry professionals. Trained postgraduate researchers also contribute to seminar teaching with their latest research-led insight. Teaching is informed by research and consultancy work.

In a typical week learning takes place through a combination of seminars and workshops enabling students to discuss and develop their understanding of topics covered in lectures in smaller groups. They'll also be able to meet their personal tutor. Outside of timetabled sessions, students need to dedicate self-study time to prepare for coursework, presentations and exams. Learners can use Stockwell Street library and online resources to support further reading and research.

In addition, during the week students can also attend additional support classes in some modules, attend guest lectures from industry experts, take part in employability and enterprise workshops and join student societies.

Learners can opt for sandwich work placement route which can last for 9-12 months. However, they are themselves responsible for arranging their placement with support from the university. Former students of the accounting and finance course have secured placements at IBM, Northern Trust, Goldman Sachs, Lawrence Grant Solicitors and Currency Exchange Corporations Ltd.

Graduates entering the accountancy profession may go into public practice by joining an accountancy firm. Besides, it can offer students the experience of working with multiple clients across various industries or the opportunity to specialize in fields such as auditing, stockbroking or consultancy. Recent graduates have joined as assurance associate at Grant Thornton, financial modeller at KPMG and counter risk trader at Barclays Investment Bank.
